Five Vonage Tips

Tip #1: How to access the ATAs Web setup?

You can simply follow the steps below to access the ATAs web Setup

(1)     Connect an Ethernet cable from the NIC on any PC or laptop directly “PC port” on the ATA box.

(2)     Open a Web browser and in 192.168.102.1

Now check and see you are able to connect.

Tip #2:  How to get your Replay TV to connect over Vonage?

In order to connect your Replay TV box over a Vonage line, you need to reduce the modem’s connect speed at to a level that can be handled by Vonage.  By reducing the connection speed to 19.2K, you should be able to connect successfully every time.

How to change the Replay TV’s Modem speed settings?

(1)     You need to press the “Menu” button on the remote and then select “Setup” and then “Network and Input Settings”.

(2)     Go via the modem setup again and on the dialling prefixes screen, press the “Zones” button on the remote.

(3)     You will see many user-definable options, which lets you set the modem speed manually. You can lower the speed and try connecting until you get a consistent connection.

Tip #3:  What to do in case of power failure?

Vonage phone adaptor does not work in case of power failure unlike standard phone lines.  Vonage Adaptor needs to be powered at all times and connected to the broadband connection actively at all times.  You are required to maintain power to all the equipments related to Vonage like the Phone Adapter, Cable/DSL modem and routers.

You can connect these devices to the UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and make sure that you enjoy uninterrupted phone service for a while.  All the Vonage related equipments have low power requirements, therefore you can buy a UPS sized to meet the needs of a PC and a Monitor, and use it for networking devices. It will give you lots of extended usage time.

Ideally, you can add up the power requirements for the equipments which need battery backup and then refer to the UPS manufacturer’s web site for selecting the best option.

Tip #4: How to receive calls when internet is down?


You can receive calls on Vonage, even when broadband connection goes down.  Vonage offers the feature of “Network Availability Number” which refers to a secondary phone number of your choice. In case of internet not working, Vonage will forward all calls to this number.

Steps for configuring the “Network Availability Number”

(1)      You need to log onto your Vonage Web account and then select the “Features”.

(2)      Select the “Network Availability Number” section from Features page and click on the “Configure” button.

(3)     Enter the desired phone number into “Enter System Not Available Number” field.

Tip#5:  What are free calls and chargeable calls?

You can have following free calls

-          All the incoming calls to Vonage number

-          Dialling an 800 number

-          Calling another Vonage number

-          Calls to retrieve voicemail

All the other calls from your Vonage number are chargeable. You can get the details of the calls from the call history.
