How to make conference calls using GTalk?
Conference call is one of most widely used feature in internet. Users love to have conference call with their friends and family online. There are many service providers in market that offer call conferencing, however Google do not provide this feature and therefore with GTalk, you cannot initiate conference call.
There is a work around of making a call conference in GTalk. You can achieve this by launching multiple instances of GTalk. GTalk permits us to open multiple GTalk instances and one can do this by following the steps below.
How to launch multiple instances of Google Talk?
Method 1: You can edit existing Google Talk shortcut by following the below mentioned steps.
- You need to right click on the Google Talk shortcut
- You can click on Properties, on the contextual menu
- Then go to Shortcut tab on Properties window.
- On the Target textbox, you can add in the /nomutex to the end of the line to make it appear like “c:\program files\Google\google talk\googletalk.exe” /nomutex. Alternatively, you can simply copy the above syntax and paste it to replace the original.
- After that you need to click on OK.
Method 2: You can create a new shortcut for Google Talk
- You need to right-click on the desktop or at a place where you want to keep the GTalk shortcut.
- You should select New on the right click context menu.
- After that you can select Shortcut.
- You may copy and paste the following line in the text box when prompted
“c:\program files\google\google talk\googletalk.exe” /nomutex
- Then you need to click on Next, give the shortcut a proper name and click OK when it’s done.
After following any of the above methods, you will be able to launch multiple instances of GTalk by clicking newly created or modified GTalk icon.
What are the steps for making Conference Calls using Google?
- Users are required to launch multiple instances of GTalk on every computer which is going to take participation in conference and it will take only 2-3 minutes.
- Now every user possesses two instances of Google Talk on their computer. One is “Google Talk” and another is “Google Talk (2)”. User need to treat both instances as two different Google Talk.
- Each user needs to login to both the GTalk instances with their own Google ID.
- User 1 will call user 2 by one instance of Google talk.
- User 2 will call User 3 by second instance of User 2
- User 3 will call User 1 by using second instance.
- This will create a chain and set up Google Talk conference where users can enjoy the call conferencing feature with office colleagues or friends.

- Users need to coordinate among themselves to make conference call
- Each user should have two instances of GTalk on his/her system
- Both the GTalk messengers running side by side on the same computer
